Yes, that's indeed what happens: if there is a single receiver, it
uses unicast.

No advice about the switch, unfortunately, but there is a flag for
udp-sender to work around these kinds of problems: --broadcast
On the command line, you call it as follows
udp-sender --broadcast image
For the bootable image, you enter --broadcast into the "Additional
parameters" dialog box (which appears almost at the end, just after
the choice of disk, and before the choice of compression)
